"The existence of ensembles that dedicate themselves to new music is a historically critical element.
ENSEMBLE EDGE is a unique ensemble, not only because of their instrumentation, but also for their
passion and commitment to the continued tradition of redefining what new music can be.
Without such ensembles, the world is deprived of the art that reacts to the world we currently live in".
– Alan Hankers, ENSEMBLE EDGE first composer in residence

Described as "atmospheric and striking" by Outburn Magazine, the music of composer and pianist Alan Hankers can be heard in concert halls, on television, and in albums alongside world-renowned musical artists. Alan's musical journey began at a young age when he started learning piano by ear. By the age of nine, he began studying classical piano while simultaneously developing his love for improvisation by playing with rock bands. These two worlds gradually fused to form his musical process and language.
As a composer of symphonic and chamber works, Alan’s music has been performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia at venues such as Lincoln Center, New World Center, Koger Center for the Performing Arts, and with ENSEMBLE EDGE at Musikhusset Aarhus (Denmark).
Alan's music for film and television has garnered international acclaim and is actively sought after by prominent post-production houses. He has composed the music for advertising campaigns for Lincoln Automotive, Amazon, David Yurman, and others. His score for the short film 'Color Blind' was awarded the Roger Taylor Best Score Award at the Idyllwild International Film Festival.
Alan completed his Ph.D. in Music Composition at Stony Brook University, where he was awarded the Ackerman Prize for Excellence in Graduate Studies. He has taught at Stony Brook University and Suffolk County Community College.
